Acclamation / acclaimed - No one else ran against the candidate, so they win by default
Civic / municipal/ city/ town/ mayoral - obviously we all know the English language has endless subtle nuances, so that no two words ever seem to be exact synonyms. However, I use most of these words interchangeably on this website. Councillor - a person elected to sit on city council Incumbent - a person already holding office (In an election, candidates that already held office who are running again are referred to as "incumbent".) Partisan - supporting a particular political party or their ideologies Trustee - a person appointed to the school board (councillor is on council, trustee is on school board) Secular - not pertaining to, or not connected with religion Ward - a section of a city or town, designed for election purposes |
